| Abiha Tanvir |
Some moments in my life are truly unforgettable. The time that I spent here at Shaukat Khanum was one of them. It was a wonderful experience here with the little angels. I was a little nervous the first day that how would I be able to bring smile on these angelic faces when they are suffering from such pain. But then I realized that once you become a part of them and get in their shoes…it’s not difficult to see that glimpse of happiness and joy!!! I learnt great things during this internship…that you should never lose hope! It felt great to be able to make a difference in someone’s life…And today I’m proud of myself that I made such a good decision to be a part of Shaukat Khanum! It was absolutely awesome to be here and my last day of internship was totally touching and I felt really sad that I was leaving. |

This was an experience that I will never forget. I got to meet efficient and committed people. Thank you very much. |
| Ahmed Hassan Khan |
The time I spent here was really special. It made me realize the countless blessings of God bestowed upon me. I also realized that the greatest blessing of all these is health, and our less fortunate people who don’t have it need our help and therefore it is our responsibility to help these people out in any way possible, financially, emotionally etc. The efficiency and commitment of the staff also impressed me greatly. This is a world class institution and I am honored to have had the chance to work in it .This really was an awesome experience. |

The time I spent here was really special for me and all the memories will remain a part of my life forever. I have also experienced a very soothing satisfaction by helping, taking care of and playing with the children, which was really an awesome experience. I would also look forward to cater such an experience which such docile children. A word of regard for SKMCH and RC. I have never been to such an organization/hospital which is so organized, patients are treated really well. You guys just rock. |

My experience at Shaukat Khanum was indeed a memorable one. I’ve learned a lot in the few weeks I’ve been here. Interacting with those kids, laughing with them, playing games with them or just talking with them has been a pleasure. I’m going to miss each and every one of them. The hospital in itself is amazing, and to know that needy people are being aided and helped comes as a great relief. This is one of the best hospitals I’ve been to so far. The people here have been wonderful. Interning at Shaukat Khanum has made me realize how grateful we can be. These kids are so brave and not afraid of what awaits them. It really touches my heart to see them face this world with such determination and bravery. As a person, they’re better than me. I respect them and am in awe of them. We were here so that they may be able to learn from us but in turn, they’re the ones who have taught us, about life, about everything! I won’t ever forget it. |
| Arsalan Ahmad Khan |
I had a very memorable experience at S.K. I felt I was doing something for someone else rather than myself, spending time with those kids was a great delight. I would love to return sometime and do this all over again. |
| Asjad Naeem Mukaddam |
This internship was an awesome experience! Interaction with kids that had come from all over Pakistan made me understand their plight. The hardships faced by them made me count my blessings. |
| Asjad Naeem Mukaddam |
This internship was an awesome experience, the daily interaction with kids from all over Pakistan, made me realize the plight of the poor and the under-resourced class. It really made me count my blessings because I saw how children suffered in their fight against cancer. I felt a special connection with them. I felt their pain and tried my best to reassure them that they would succeed in this brutal battle for survival. I saw liveliness in the children and saw hope in their eyes; they wanted to live and spend their time in this beautiful world. I have felt affection and tried my best to make them happy whatever the cost. The activities included story-telling making puzzles etc, but the all time favorite were the balloons. This is an unforgettable experience! God Bless SKMH & RC and Imran Khan |
| Attique Humayun |
This is certainly going to be the best experience of my life. I got to see the other side of the otherwise beautiful world. It was depressing to see kids of my age in pain and I hope that all of them get cured and live a long happy life. |
| Ayesha Hasan |
It was truly a humbling experience. Working with such young cancer patients and helping them with the difficulties was indeed quite satisfying. It made me appreciate all the Wonderful things in life. |
| Aymen Sohail |
My experience at Shaukat Khanum was very great and memorable and I was really happy to see that the children got great happiness when we give smiles to them. All are very cooperative and Madiha, Miss Afsheen and Miss Zahra were very kind and friendly. The atmosphere is really very good. Thank you so much to all of you. |

It was a wonderful experience working at Shaukat Khanum. The children were fun loving and joyous and I enjoyed spending time with them. Most important thing is that everything at Shaukat Khanum was organized. I must say hats off to the management of the hospital. Loved working here will come back again next year. Bye. |

SKM has provided me the opportunity which is unforgettable. After coming here I realized the difficulties of others and came to know a lot about myself. This chance has infused in me a great spirit of helping society. I feel really good that I have worked in such a great place. |
| Faryal Cheema |
The time I spent here was so much better than any other internship I’ve been to. I’ll never forget it and I’ll try my best to come back again, maybe as a doctor. |
| Faryal Murtaza Cheema |
My first day was unfortunately, not so good. I had no idea where I was supposed to go, and it ended up in me having to go home and come again the next day. When I first met the kids, I didn’t know what to do. How can one pretend to be happy and cheer kids up who you don’t know will make it through the next year? But that is exactly what I learned at Shaukat Khanum, and it is this, what made me stronger and what I will always remember and thank this place for. It was amazing how these kids could continue to smile, continue to do what we did when we were small, except for the difference in our conditions. In fact they were more enthusiastic, more optimistic on the outlook of life, and sang merrier songs than I ever knew myself. Their songs continue to ring in my head as I write this, and I hope I will one day be able to understand the meaning of those melodious Pashto lyrics. |
| Fatima Khan |
The experience was far better than what I expected. The love children gave here was far more than I expected. I am certainly going to miss them all. |

Learn to be happy at whatever you have, whatever you are, This is one of the things that I learned during my experience at SKMH & RC, At first, coming at SKMH, I had only a vogue impression of the pains and sufferings of cancer patients. But now, being so close to them, to actually share in their everyday life. To witness their pain, and their relatives sacrifices to be with them….It was truly moving. For now all I am able to say is that I am definitely not the same person as I was when I walked through the gates of SKMH on the first day of my internship. I played ludo, solved jigsaw puzzles, put stickers and told stories…all of it to bring a smile to the face of the sick children. I spent unforgettable, sweet moments with these children, and I recommend others to do the same….Allah Hafiz. It was great being here. |
| Fatima Tanvir |
The time I spent here was absolute true unforgettable pleasure. It also made me realize the bounties and naimtain that we have and we take for granted. “Learn to be happy at whatever we have, whoever we are.” I hope these moments come again and our memories are renewed. Rock on SKMCH. |
| Haider Ali Cheema |

| Haider Aurangzeb |
The time I spent here was simply unforgettable. It made me realize the blessing of Allah bestowed upon me and the need for me to pay him back through my deeds. The kids here are really understanding and the whole idea or concept of this program is being totally achieved. Developed strong feelings for the children as for the love they honored me by. I became their favorite intern as I would make them play video games. It was nice being loved! The entire experience definitely helped me become a better person and made me realize the responsibilities upon my shoulders-to help mankind! |

“living is usual but living for someone else is something not usual”. This summer I came to know about Shaukat Khanum internship program. As I am a medical student so I applied here. It was my first time that I applied for internship anywhere so I didn’t have an idea about working as an internee. But after working in Shaukat Khanum Hospital I really feel that I have done something commendable in my life. It was really a great experience working here. I was in chemo department where patients usually come on appointments. I felt so glad to interact with cancer patients. I felt honored to serve these children who were suffering from severe pain. During my internship period I put all my will to make them happy. We can’t imagine how painful situation they are facing but I just tried to lessen their pain by making that time special for them.“your only smile can change the pottery, of someone else’s life” This was the wonderful experience I had in my life. I have learnt a lot from them. Shaukat Khanum hospital is doing an outstanding job for patients. I just love these children. I hope that soon I get to serve these patients as a volunteer but also as a doctor (inshallah). May God always hover upon these children with his blessings (ameen) |

| Hashim Jillani |
This was a memorable experience for me and I am thankful to SKMCH for giving me this opportunity. |
| Hashim Kaleem |
Before I get into any official comments, one thing i have to say is that I am gonna miss this place like anything. Cancer reminds me of a very chaotic & miserable scenario but the best part is that amidst all this grief, the gift shop together with its caretakers and the ‘mannerful’ internees serves as an effective smile center-PS2, Cindy, Pooh, Mulan, balloons, biscuits, skates, & stickers-the kids couldn’t have asked for better treatment and of course my presence makes it even perfect. I have made a couple of new friends (I hope) and YEAH my cards are better than Khadija’s any day & yeah BSS for life. |
| Hassan Saqib |
It has been a great experience for me. I enjoyed my time with the kids and also increased my confidence. I am thankful to SKMCH for this opportunity. |
| Hiba Tariq Khan |
It was a wonderful experience interacting with kids who have little in life. Their one smile made me feel elevated. It was a blissful feeling, making them laugh, smile many are talkative, many are shy but all of them are pure to the core of their heart. It was a once in a lifetime experience and an experience one will never forget. I don’t want to leave, that’s a fact, but I wouldn’t want to deprive anyone of this wonderful, amazing experience. In simple words ‘it was wonderful’ Inshallah all these kids will live a long healthy Life. God is with them and they have all our blessings. |
| Isha Siddiqui |
This experience opened my eyes to a life which I never knew. I learned to interact with different people with confidence. I wish these children the best of health and a bright promising future. |

It was such a great experience in here especially when i saw children recovering and parents satisfied with the faculty. I wish to see even more places like this in my country. Good luck Children. |

I was all so excited to hear about the ‘Shaukat Khanum’ internship and forced my career advisor to get us in here, and at last the day arrived when we started this volunteer work. The first day with the patients was a lot depressing. It was like a bolt from the blue, seeing so many young children suffering, and their poor families. But when we got used to it and came here every day to brighten the days of the cancer patients. It was touching too see how the patients got happy by seeing just a balloon or a flower (made of tissue paper). I want to salute Sir Imran Khan for making such a beautiful hospital, with centrally air-conditioned ,neat corridors .The exciting and colorful Gift-shop idea which fantasizes the young ones and makes their suffering days here, all so enthusiastic and they actually look forward to it. I had a great time here and I would love to come back here, to brighten up more lives!! And thanks to our coordinator ‘Zahra’ for being so cooperative and making this more fun! |
| Khaula Mamoon Rasheed |
Playing with kids has never been my forte. I was always hesitant to interact with them before I came to SKM. I came here for volunteer work but I never realized that by the end. It will be the most amazing period of my life. The children here gave me confidence to deal with their innocence which they are unaware of God bless them all. Although I’ll miss them and their longing eyes with sweet smiles and pashto accent, I hope they all get back to the normal life. God bless the staff too. They are cooperative and organized, caring and responsible I’ll always remember this institution wherever I go and will proudly declare it as a Pakistani model of excellence. I can never forget how the children came running to me knowing that their present day will be as playful as yesterday. One of the child’s mother said aap ko nahin pata kay in bachon ki maaen ander say tooti hoti hain but they smile when their child is running after and playing with just a balloon. |

The environment is affable and the kids are truly adorable. Everyone is really cooperative. |

It was a great experience I really enjoyed a lot even I learned different things. Zara was so friendly with us. Being talkative I disturbed her a lot but it was great fun. I’ll remember the smiling faces of little kids. |
| Maha Munawar |
An eye opening experience that actually taught me the reality of life and actually made me thank God for his numerous blessings. An awesome experience. |
| Maha Munawar |
Well the experience was really great. Staff at the hospital was very co-operative and I really had great fun, I was in in-patient II Department for story-telling and my heads their i.e. Miss Afsheen and Miss Myra helped me getting used to the environment. Honestly speaking when you interact with kids and play with them it’s really fun. More over whenever I made a child smile I felt my purpose had been achieved. What I did these two weeks in Shaukat Khanum is really interesting. I made friendship bands with the kids, made them make cards, told stories to them and painted with them. I tried to console them and make a friendly environment around them. Then as 14th August approached we made special posters for kids in which they were to make drawings related to 14th August and the best drawing would get a certificate. In last I would just like to thank Shaukat Khanum for giving us the opportunity to come and enjoy the reality of life. |
| Maham Liaqat |
Its fun working here especially the sense of satisfaction and happiness which I experienced, working here is something which I can never forget. Weariness due to hours hectic traveling of local busses in the scorching heat of 12pm from my home to Shaukat Khanum miraculously evaporate as I set as much as one toe on the land of chemo children. These are the kids who in real sense reincarnated my life and make me thankful to God. These kids are full of life and Shaukat Khanum is doing its best to keep their torch of life burning and their hopes and plans from burning., God Bless SKMH!, Keep up the good work, Keep blossoming in the prayers of needy patients, If I’m of any help don’t hesitate to call me. |
| Maham Liaqat |
This is an experience worth being remembered these are the best days of my life. God bless SKMCH!!! Miss you. |

My experience at SKM was an amazing one. I have created so many memories and attached to the children. May God bless SKM and may all the patients get well soon. |
| Maleeha Shafeeq. |
My experience at SKMCH was wonderful. I always want to work for special people and in SKMCH I got that opportunity, here I came to know that these people are the real gems of the world. I had spent my two weeks in the play room of radiation department of the hospital where I met the children suffering from different types of cancer and I feel good in playing and spending time with them. SKMCH is making great efforts for children through which they consider themselves as the special part of our society. One of my best days at hospital was 14th August on which hospital had organized an Independence day function for hospital patients which consist of interesting items and which provides great happiness to them. That 14th August was the remarkable day of my life. One more thing I want to mention in my article is that the staff of SKMCH was very co-operative and kind while working there I felt that I was in my family. I always pray for health of patients and success of SKMCH and in the end I want to write a few lines hastee she bay zaaree na thee, maut seh yaaree na thee Jiss safar parr hum nikklay, uss safar ki tayaree na thee. |
| Mannal Sohail |
I had a nice experience here. It made me thank God for giving me a healthy life. I would like to work here again. |

| Maryam Fatima |
Feels good to be able to make a difference in someone’s life. |
| Maryam Fatima |
SKM has shown me, more than anything else that whatever the problem and however adverse the times are, there is always a solution and clichéd as it may sound, ‘a silver lining’-Working with kids fighting cancer developed in me a sense to thank God for all the good health, He has blessed me with. When these little kids with no guarantee of long life can smile, so could I, I’ve realized. This whole experience has humbled me and introduced me to feelings of patience and gratefulness I did not know existed. The people at Shaukat Khanum are doing something that gives hundreds of kids hope, happiness and something to look forward to in their otherwise dull and redundant lives. I hope the people at work here, get all that they deserve and work for. This is a truly special and one-of-its-kind place and I’m glad to have been part of it, no matter for how short a while it was. |
| Mehak Fatima |
Nice, adorable place to intern in. Friendly people to have with, spend a very good time with kids hope to be here again. Inshallah. |
| Mohammed Haider Ali Abbasi |
Shaukat Khanum Hospital gave me a chance to give joy and hope to all those children suffering from horrible illnesses. My two weeks here were the best of my life and I leave this place a better human being than ever before. I did this out of love and determination to help those who were not as privileged as me. Given control of the children’s play area was a demanding job, because we all know how much each and every kid wants a turn to play the PS2. The role I was assigned to was of a supervisor, but, I changed it to one of an elder brother, playing with his younger siblings. While working with these children I could not help but notice how brave each and every one of them was, how after rounds to the doctors and battling with cancer did not make them sullen. My experience was truly enriching, it gave me a new perspective to life; how, even after such pain one can rise above and eventually overcome it. I had no one particular moment of fun; the kids and I enjoyed every day to its fullest leaving no room for disappointment. Coloring, blowing balloons (having the occasional one bursting in my face!), playing video games or even cheating in a coloring match between Khizar and another Sajjad (Khizar won thanks to me!) all brought me great happiness. The best thing though was the children’s excitement to learn and explore new things be it a new video game or a story book. The staff at the hospital were some of the best people I have ever worked with, they were cooperative and encouraging people who helped me with any problems. I had and always had a smile on their faces. I would like to thank Miss. Zara for the opportunity to work with these amazing children, I would also like to thank my fellow interns for their help in some sticky situations and I would like to thank those wonderful children for inspiring me and showing me the path to becoming a greater humanitarian. Thank you Shaukat Khannum & Sir Imran Khan, my respect for you as a junior has increased ten fold |
| Mohsin Haroon |
It was a wonderful opportunity to serve SKM as a volunteer, my working experience at Shaukat Khanum was informative joyful and eye-opening. The orientation meeting which was held on the first day was well-oriented and in which we were given brief explanation about the hospitals systems and its departments. We got to know how the diagnosis of a disease is done and how the research is carried out. The facilities being provided to the patients and staff were very impressive. I always wanted to serve the children who suffered from harmful diseases and this opportunity was given to me by Shaukat Khanum by employing me in the chemo department. I had a great time there performing activities with the children such as drawing, playing games etc, just to divert their attention from their diseases. I got to know many people and learned how they live their lives. I tried to form a friendly atmosphere and even tried to communicate and share the feelings with the children. Over-all it was a marvelous time which I had spent here. I would like to thank my heads for supporting me on each and every move. Specially Miss Zara and other volunteers who encouraged me to build a strong relation of trust, I will never forget my stay here. |
| Mohsin Haroon Ali |
It was an outstanding experience that I have never had before. |

It was a good experience and it was fun to help the children. |
| Narmeen Faran |
This was a brilliant experience being here. This taught me that we should thank Allah for giving us a peaceful and healthy life. And should pray for all of them |
| Narmeen Farhan. |
This was my first experience as a volunteer. It was an awesome one. I enjoyed a lot with the children and tried a lot to divert their attention from their environment. It was fun. But this was a painful job as well, like I felt a lot for these people suffering from cancer; small kids with drips and injections. This really opened my mind and I realized that what life actually is. In front of these helpless people our problems are nothing, and I thank my God for giving me a healthy and peaceful life. And we should all pray for them that Allah May help them (aameen). |
| Nashima Tariq |
I had a wonderful experience in this great place everything was really organized and got to learn a lot in these days. I consider these days to be the best of my life as they taught me a lot and made me know about different people and their hardships in life. There was a really nice interaction with kids. Thanks SKM. |

Well, my experience in Shaukat Khanum is awesome and truly unforgettable. The staff here and superior Miss Huma Nur was very cooperating and helpful to me. The first day I was hesitating and was confused a bit but gradually I was able to indulge with the kids in Chemotherapy only because they were responsive, optimistic and very enthusiastic even they were harrowing situation. It was nice to deal with the kids by storytelling, playing games and other activities, and these activities were like ingredients which joined the bonds of friendship with the kids. Anyways it was a great experience which gave me confidence to deal with others as well and make me thankful to God. |
| Riya Yawar |

| Saman Adnan |
It was amazing working with SKM I learnt a lot I spent some great time with the patients here. |
| Saman Adnan Khan |
Three years back I lost my grandmother to breast cancer, she got her medical treatment from this very hospital and since then I was extremely impressed by the systematic and disciplined environment at SKM. When I applied here for my community service I was surprised to know that already many volunteers were a part of SKM, and many were waiting for their turn. I started working here at 27th July 2009, and was placed in the Resource Development Department. Ms. Zara the in charge of the volunteer program at SKM, after my orientation asked me to go in the play room of ‘Radiation Oncology Department’. It was a small play room where patients who were having their radiation used to come and play with me. Fatima and Abu-Huraira both eleven year old patients used to come regularly to play. We used to play ludo and puzzle games. It was really good to see that they were really positive about their recovery. It was a lot of fun being with them. I taught them to make birthday caps, face masks, wrist bands as well. After spending seven days there, thanks to Ms.Zara who encouraged my work and made me in charge of some volunteers who were working in the Chemo Department. From 9-11 I had a batch of five boys Wajah, Waleed, Asjad, Ahsan and Ahmed all A-level students from various schools. At first i thought that it will be though working with the boys but all of them were really co-operative and helpful. We all worked as a team one of us used to sit in the play area and manage and play with the patients there while the rest used to go in the children and make the children play ludo, puzzle, games or used to tell them stories. Same was the routine from 11-1 when Rabeya, Mohsin and Manal used to work with me. The three of them were O-level students. We used to blow balloons for the patients and give them stickers and biscuits. It was a lot of fun. The patients such as Wajid and Sajjad were really naughty and at times it was difficult to handle them, but at the same time they were a lot of fun. Some funny moments will always be remembered by me such as, Wajah bursting a balloon on his face, Waleed coming up and saying that that the patient is saying that you are not telling the Allahdin story correctly, Rabeeya taking a round on wheel chair’ ,Ms Zara coming up while Rabeeya, Manal and Mohsin were busy on the phone. ‘Wajid and Sajjad fighting over ludo game….’ And many many more. Ms Zara, the volunteers and the patients like Wajid, Sajjad and Fatima made my stay over here even more memorable. I wish the patients get well soon, and wish SKMCH&RC and Mr. Imran Khan all the best for the future. I had an amazing experience working here, and would love to work here again. Thank you SKM for giving me this wonderful opportunity. Long live SKMCH & RC. |

It was a great experience. I had great fun and a lot. |
| Sanaa Sheikh |
I enjoyed my experience at SKM. It’s good to know so many people’s lives are being saved everyday. |
| Sanaa Sheikh |
My time at Shaukat Khanum Memorial has really opened my eyes to the many problems people may have to face. I thank God for his numerous blessings. Miss Afsheen and Miss Myra were very helpful with getting us to be able to communicate with the patients. My time with the patients was enjoyable and past all too quickly at first I was nervous about talking with the patients but my first patient Ali Shahrez showed me there was no reason to be nervous. It was just like talking and playing with a younger cousin. I have learned to get along with all the patients I visited. The children would also come to the play room themselves. As August 14th Independence Day is approaching many children were taking part in a play, it was wonderful to see the children so enthusiastic about something the speed at which they learned their parts was also surprisingly fast. I enjoyed my time at Shaukat Khanum and hope every volunteer’s experience is just as memorable. |
| Sanna Sahir |
My stay was a wonderful experience which I shall cherish all my life. I have never come across a hospital like this which has been built on so much love and care. I just hope this continues & I want to say Mashallah continue the good work & God bless you. |
| Sanna Tahir. |
It was my first day, and I was as nervous as though it was the first day of school. Butterflies gripped my stomach and not knowing at all what to expect, I walked through the doors of Shaukat Khanam’s resource blocks. I was rushed through the internship process from cabin to cabin to get my volunteer card made and then to the gift shop to be posted in a department. I felt myself almost awed and amazingly surprised at the efficiency of the process which I had doubted earlier. One day at the chemotherapy bay (my new department) took care of all my awkwardness. Cheerful, smiling children playing ludo, building blocks, receiving biscuits and stickers form other interns, replaced the sad miserable ones in my mind who lay in beds all day long, with chemo drips. These other children spent every day like it was their last laughing and joking with the interns. So how could anyone possibly be uncomfortable around them Shaukat Khannum I realized, was different from any other hospital I had ever been to. It provided expert care for the patients regardless of their financial status, by the most qualified doctors. Having talked to one of the parents of the patient I came to know that there were even residential facilities for cancer patients. So what could a suffering patient and their families want? No wonder I was greeted by beaming smiles! For next two weeks I absolutely adored my job of inter-acting with the little children and getting to know them. Instead of waking up at seven every morning with dread, I actually began looking forward to it. Shaukat Khannum gave me an important gift during my holidays in Pakistan, a chance to physically inter-act with patients and make a difference in their lives; so when I go back to the UK, I can feel that during these holidays, I have indeed changed some people’s lives. I am grateful for these opportunities and hope to come back next year. |

The internship was not merely an internship for me but a life altering experience. I saw different kinds of people all treated the same way without bias. Be they poor or rich. This experience inspired me to do something in the future which would help enrich everyone’s life. |

It was really a great experience for me at SKM. Meeting different cancer patients and bringing smiles on their faces was a really great honor for me. Three of my own family members who were really close to me have suffered from cancer, so I know how the relatives of a cancer patient feel. Each and every second here was of great importance to me! These were the most memorable moments of my life!! And I can never forget these four weeks. |

This was my first ever internship and I had a great time here. The staff here was really cooperative and helpful. My experience with children was truly a great one. It made me realize that life shouldn’t be taken for granted and we should live every bit of it. I hope these children remain smiling and I hope that their life will be lit by many joys like they lit ours with their smiles and jokes. I pray that they’ll have a long life. Inshallah. SKM is doing a great job by Living for others. |

My internship started here at Shaukat Khanum Hospital on 6th August 2009.With the first glimpse I found Shaukat Khanum to be quite a different hospital from all other hospitals I had previously seen. This hospital has all modern technologies and is centrally air-conditioned. I was pleased to see that the patients were taken great care of. As I was working at the children’s play area I witnessed that children with cancer and proper arrangements were made for their well being, treatment and most importantly entertainment. With all these advancements I must say that Shaukat Khanum is one of the best hospitals in Pakistan and the staff here is working well to fight against cancer. SKMCH is great gift to our country from our very own national hero Imran Khan, we all are thankful to him. |

This is quite a learning experience. Even though I am not good with handling kids, this internship provided an opportunity to learn to entertain kids and develop a good relationship with them. |
