Shauka t Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre [SKMCH&RC] has always been organizing healthy activities for the youth of the country. The successful Science Fair ‘EUREKA 2010’ organized by the Hospital is yet another feather in its cap. The fair aimed to provide opportunities to young scientists all over Pakistan to share ideas, showcase innovative science projects and promote creativity amongst the students. Nearly 100 projects
in the categories of Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Computer Sciences and
Environmental Sciences qualified for the grand final this year. The
Scientific Review Committee comprised of renowned scientists and
teachers like Prof. Dr. Arjumand Iqbal Durrani, University of
Engineering & Technology, Lahore, Prof. Zeeshan Khawar, Institute of
Business & Information Technology, (IBIT), University of Punjab,
Lahore, Prof. Dr. Hamid Saeed, Forman Christian College University,
Lahore, Prof. Dr. Nikhat Khan, Kinnaird College, Lahore, Prof. Dr.
Sufiyan Aslam, Forman Christian College University, Lahore and Dr.
Natasha Anwar, SKMCH&RC.
In his concluding remarks, Dr. Zia
Salman Faruqui, Chief Guest and Head, Department of Radiology at
SKMCH&RC, commended the efforts of the students and appreciated the
scientific thought of the young students. He said that education was
important for the progress of any nation but it is the innovative
ability of its people that makes it great. He further added that the
finalists were an asset and beacon of light for the student community. 37
students received distinctions in the 5 categories while Ali Mannan
and Haad Nadeem, from Beaconhouse School System, Canal Campus, jointly
won the prestigious SKM Junior Scientist of the Year Award for their
project on Air Purification. |
