Consultant Physician (Internal Medicine)

The Hospital is looking for highly motivated and committed individuals to undertake positions as consultant physicians in department of Internal Medicine. The physicians will be expected to provide Internal Medicine expertise in the day to day management of sick cancer patients coming to the Emergency Room and those being admitted.

The physicians will also have the opportunity to collaborate with Oncologists towards a common goal of improving the outcome of cancer treatment at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre. The Physician will be expected to participate actively in teaching and training program for junior doctors in the department of Internal Medicine and also liaise closely with Surgeons and Physicians in other specialties and staff within the hospital.


Eligibility Criteria:

  • MRCP with at least 3 years of working in UK/ American Boards in Internal Medicine.
  • Valid PMDC license.
  • Ability to work under pressure, interact and coordinate with diverse groups of people.
  • Computer literacy and good communication skills.

Consultant Specialists (Internal Medicine)

The specialists will be expected to provide expertise in their respective fields in day to day management of sick cancer patients coming to the hospital.

They will have the opportunity to collaborate with Oncologists and other Internal Medicine physicians and specialists towards a common goal of improving the outcome of cancer treatment at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre.   • MRCP with consultant status in UK/Ireland/ American Boards in respective specialty.

Interventional Radiology Fellowship

One year clinical fellowship in interventional radiology with major streams covering Vascular and Interventional Radiology (VIR) and Interventional Neuroradiology commencing from January 2012. The selected individual is expected to provide clinical service in the area of VIR and Interventional Neuroradiology, learn pre and post-procedural care in addition to the actual procedural skills and provide on-going support and consultation to clinical services. The program is based at the Department of Radiology and is supervised by our fully-trained interventional radiologists.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • MBBS.
  • FRCR / FCPS.
  • Minimum 4 years of approved Radiology training experience. 

 

Fellowship in Body Imaging

Applications are invited for a one year fellowship program in Body Imaging commencing from October 2011. The selected individual will be exposed to complex and challenging general & oncology cases at two sites. The Department of Radiology and its satellite centre are equipped with 1.5T & open MRI systems (DTI & spectroscopy), multi detector CT’s including two 64-channel units fully cardiac capable, an interventional suite, High-end ultrasound, gamma cameras and CR system including mammography. Our PET-CT scanning system is also now functional. The hospital information system and Radiology information system (RIS) rely on PACS in this film-less department. The fellow may also participate in Breast imaging including MR and intervention. Research is encouraged and the Fellow will be provided with protected research time; involvement in all the multidisciplinary meeting would be mandatory.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • MBBS.
  • FRCR / FCPS.
  • Minimum 4 years of approved Radiology training experience.



Fellowship in Paediatric Oncology

Applications are invited for a three year Hospital fellowship in Paediatric Oncology. The Hospital sees approximately 300 new paediatric cancer patients annually, and has a multi-disciplinary approach to cancer treatment. All Paediatric cancer patients are treated by teams of medical, radiation and surgical oncologists. The hospital is, therefore, ideally suited for a postgraduate training programme in Paediatric Oncology.

We offer a unique learning experience that will prepare the selected candidates to become well trained, highly qualified paediatric oncologists of international standard. In addition, there is a strong emphasis on research, with a number of cancer treatment trials in progress at any time. Fellows will be trained in various aspects of Paediatric Oncology including in- and out-patient management of complex cancer patients, management of oncologic emergencies, radiation oncology, cancer radiology, supportive care and research methodology. The fellowship training period is 3 years.

Fellows who perform very well during their training may be offered an additional year of training at an affiliated institution in the US or the UK, which will be arranged by SKMCH & RC.

Fellows who successfully complete the required training, including training abroad, will be eligible for appointment at a consultant level at SKMCH & RC.


Eligibility Criteria:

Those wishing to apply must be in possession of one of the following:

  • FCPS in Paediatrics/ MRCP-UK (Paeds)/ MRCPCH/ American Board in Paediatrics. 

     

Fellowship in Medical Oncology

Fellowship in Medical Oncology is a planned expansion of an established Medical Oncology training programme recognized by the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. The fellowship training period is 3 years, leading to FCPS in Medical Oncology on successful completion of training and passing the college examination.

Close to 5000 new cancer patients are seen annually. There is special emphasis on multidisciplinary approach to management of cancer with site specialist teams comprising of medical, radiation, and surgical oncologists, specialty physicians, radiologists and pathologists. This offers a unique training experience for the trainees to learn and understand all aspects of management of solid tumours and haematological malignancies, which will prepare them to become well trained, highly qualified oncologists of international standards. In addition, there is a strong emphasis on research, with a number of cancer treatment trials in progress at any time.

Fellows, who successfully complete the required training, succeed in obtaining the FCPS in Medical Oncology and have the requisite overseas experience, will be eligible for appointment at a consultant level at SKMCH & RC.

Fellows who perform very well during their training may be offered an additional year of training at an affiliated institution in the US or the UK, which will be arranged by SKMCH & RC.

Job Description:

  • The training post(s) is for a period of 3 years.
  • The selected candidate(s) will rotate through various site specialist oncology teams over 3 years to allow exposure to the whole range of oncology. They will be supervised by consultant oncologists during each attachment with regular appraisals to ensure adequate progress in training.
  • The selected candidate(s) will be involved in patient care in outpatient clinics, inpatient floors, and in the chemotherapy bay.
  • They will participate in an on call rota for assessment and management of patients presenting to the emergency assessment room.
  • They will be expected to participate in the academic activities of the department including presentations, research, audit, and teaching junior doctors and nurses.

Eligibility Criteria: 

  • FCPS in internal medicine.

Fellowship in Surgical Pathology

This is a one year post-FCPS fellowship in Surgical Pathology in the Pathology Department at SKMCH&RC. The department has an annual workload of 55,000 cases. The training programme will be supervised by experienced consultants with post-graduate qualifications from USA and UK. The department has facilities for frozen sections, immunohistochemistry, FISH and cytogenetics. The training programme will provide opportunities to interact with clinical colleagues by participation in interdisciplinary tumor boards. It will enable newly  -qualified pathologists to hone their diagnostic skills and provide them with enough experience to work as independent consultants following completion of the Fellowship. The fellow will be expected to present papers in pathology conferences and submit at least three papers for publication in medical journals of repute. The duties will also include training of residents, especially in gross specimen handling and in preparation of tumour checklists.


Eligibility Criteria:
 

  • FCPS in histopathology.


Fellowship in Surgical Oncology

Applications are invited for a two year fellowship programme in Surgical Oncology, which is approved by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan and is due to commence in March 2012. FCPS in Surgical Oncology is awarded on successful completion of training and passing the college examination.  There is scope for a further period of advanced, site-specialised training for an additional one year, by mutual consensus of the trainee and the supervisors.

Close to 5000 new cancer patients are seen annually at SKMCH&RC. There is special emphasis on a multidisciplinary approach to management of cancer with site specialist teams comprising of medical, radiation, and surgical oncologists, specialty physicians, radiologists and pathologists. The Surgical Oncology Department at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital and Research Centre offers advanced open and minimal access procedures for a wide variety of malignancies.  This offers a unique experience for the trainees to learn management of malignant tumours and operative skills. The training period will prepare them to become well trained, highly qualified surgical oncologists of international standard. In addition, there is a strong emphasis on research, with a number of cancer treatment trials in progress at any time.

Fellows who successfully complete the required training and succeed in obtaining the FCPS in Surgical Oncology may be offered additional training at an affiliated institution in the US or the UK, which will be arranged by SKMCH & RC. 

Job Description:

  • The training post(s) is for a period of two years.
  • Additional one year advanced training is optional.
  • The selected candidate(s) will rotate through various site specialized oncology teams over two years to allow exposure to the whole range of surgical oncology. They will be supervised by consultant surgical oncologists during each attachment with regular appraisals to ensure adequate progress in training.
  • The selected candidate(s) will be involved in patient care in outpatient clinics, inpatient floors, and in the operation theatres.
  • They will participate in an on call rota for assessment and management of patients presenting to the emergency assessment room and in the in-patient area.
  • They will be expected to participate in the academic activities of the department including presentations, research, audit, and teaching junior doctors and nurses.
  • Fellows are expected to be resident in the Hospital when on call during the first year of the Fellowship programme. 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Full FCPS in General Surgery.

  

Fellowship in Gastroenterology

Applications are invited for a three-year Fellowship training programme in Gastroenterology, recognized by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan. This is designed to lead to the FCPS in Gastroenterology following successful completion of training and passing the College examinations. The Division of Gastroenterology at SKMCH&RC is an integral part of the Hospital and sees a wide variety of patients with cancerous as well as non-cancerous conditions. There is a special emphasis on a multidisciplinary approach to patient management. In addition, there is a strong emphasis on research, with a number of clinical and basic science trials in progress at any time. Elective rotations to other quality institutions will be encouraged.

Job Description:

  • The training post is for a period of 3 years.
  • The selected candidate will work with a team of gastroenterologists, specialist physicians, surgeons, radiologists, pathologists and oncologists. Training will be supervised during each attachment with regular appraisals to ensure adequate progress in training.
  • The selected candidate will be involved in patient care in outpatient clinics, on the inpatient floors, and in the Emergency Assessment Room.
  • The Fellow can expect to be fully trained, by the end of the Fellowship, in diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower GI Endoscopy, ERCP and radial and linear endoscopic ultrasound.
  • All specialty Fellows participate in an on-call rota for assessment and management of medical patients presenting to the emergency assessment room. Fellows are expected to be resident in the Hospital when on call during the first year of the Fellowship programme.
  • Fellows will be expected to participate in the academic activities of the department including presentations, research, audit, and teaching junior doctors and nurses.

  • Full FCPS in Internal Medicine.


Medical Officer (Paediatric Oncology)

Eligibility Criteria:

  • MBBS (should have passed all professional examinations in the first attempt obtaining at least 59% marks in Final Professional).
  • Should have completed one-year house job (further experience is desirable).With at least six months experience in Paediatrics.
  • Willing and able to take on increasing responsibility with time.
  • Computer literacy and good communication skills are essential. 

Medical Officer (Walk In Clinic Lahore)

Brief Job Description:

his job is based at the SKMCH&RC Walk In Clinic Lahore. WIC is the initial point of contact for most patients with confirmed or suspected cancer. Responsibilities include initial evaluation and counseling and organising staging investigations, followed by referral for further management. Knowledge of cancer staging is desirable, though on job training will also be provided. Good communication skills are essential. Computer literacy and willingness to take on increasing responsibilities with time are essential pre-requisites.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • MBBS (should have passed all professional examinations in the first attempt obtaining at least 59% marks in Final Professional).
  • Should have completed one-year house job in Medicine and Surgery (further experience is strongly desirable).

Post Graduate Resident Doctor, Department of Internal Medicine

Essential requirements in selected candidates will include the following:- 
  • MBBS (should have passed all professional examinations at 1st attempt obtaining at least 59% marks in Final Professional).
  • One year house job (preferably in medicine and allied specialties).
  • FCPS part-I (in Medicine) OR MRCP Part I.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to interact and coordinate with diverse groups of people.
  • Willing and able to take on increasing responsibility with time.
  • Computer literacy and good communication skills are essential.
  • Skills and confidence in making precise and accurate decisions based on history, physical examination and all clinical information available.
  • Training environment geared towards preparation of FCPS examination, MCQ/SEQ and case-based tutorials as well as bed-side teaching.
  • Direct consultant supervision.

       The department is recognized for training for FCPS in Medicine, as well as for MRCP (UK).
