Inauguration of New Chemotherapy Bay

Chemotherapy is one of the most effective treatment modalities available for the treatment of cancer. At Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre, nearly 40,000 patients are currently given chemotherapy annually in our dedicated chemotherapy bays, as well as in the inpatient areas. Despite the fact that the Chemotherapy Bays were operational from 8 am till midnight, seven days a week, we were having increasing difficulty catering to the needs of our ever-increasing patient numbers. As a result, a plan was devised to create a new 10-bedded Chemotherapy bay, to augment the existing 20 beds. With the help and support of our well-wishers and friends, the new bay was constructed in a period of just over three months and was inaugurated on February 11, 2009 by Imran Khan, the Chairman of the Board of Governors of SKMCH&RC. Mian Haleem Sheikh, Mrs. Rehana Haleem, Mr. & Mrs. Khan Tariq Hamid and representatives from Uch Power (Pvt) Ltd, all of whom had donated Rs. 5 million each towards the cost of construction, were present at the event.

Dr. Faisal Sultan, the CEO of SKMCH&RC, made a short presentation on the Hospital’s current projects and our future needs.  He highlighted ongoing and future development projects, including the construction of two new inpatient floors planned to start later this year. Imran Khan thanked the donors for their continued support over the years and assured them that their contributions would enhance the Hospital’s capacity to treat more indigent cancer patients. Other supporters present at the event also announced pledges amounting to nearly Rs. 7 million for various Hospital projects.
