The story of 13 years old, Muhammad Irfan Hakeem unfolds in Burewala, a small town near Lahore. Young Irfan lived happily with his paternal aunt until a swelling on the right side of his groin necessitated a visit to a local doctor who prescribed antibiotics, Irfan got temporary relief, but the swelling persisted and continued to grow, Eventually he was taken to his parents in Lahore. Preliminary tests convinced to doctor to refer young irfan to Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre.

Medical investigations carried out here, confirmed the diagnosis of Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (NHL). The presence of the disease was a dreadful revelation for Irfan and his family belonging to the underprivileged class and unable to bear the high cost of treatment, they were relieved to learn about the hospital’s policy of providing free treatment to deserving patients. Irfan’s treatment was initiated without any delay.
Irfan underwent extensive treatment for over 5 years. At one point during his treatment irfan experienced a relapse of NHL. Finally, irfan’s struggle a against the dreadful disease, non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma succeeded and a dark period of his life was over.

The timely treatment of Irfan helped him escape from a life and death situation. Today apart from a regular follow-up schedule at the hospital, Irfan lives a healthy and active life.
