SUCCESS STORY

alt
Mehwish Javed, 14, the only daughter of her parents was admitted to Shaukat Khanum Hospital in August 2000. Prior to this she lived happily with her family in Mansehra NWFP, until she came down with fever, the fever persisted, causing weakness and pain in her legs. She was taken to a local lady doctor who advised CBC, which was followed by a BMB that was done in CMH, Rawalpindi. The results of these tests convinced doctors to refer Mehwish to Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital and Research Centre.

The thorough medical investigations carried out at SKMCH repeatedly, confirmed the diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblast Leukemia.

This was a dreadful revelation for the parents of Mehwish, Serving in Tarbela Dam as Laboratory Assistant, her father was unable to bear the high cost of cancer treatment. However worries subsided after learning about SKMCH’s financial aid policy towards deserving patients. Mehwish’s treatment started at once.

Bravely going through extensive chemotherapy, Mehwish overcame this deadly disease, today she enjoys sound health and has just taken her 10th class examination. The tender words of the doctors and the loving attitude of the nursing staff at SKMCH made me heal rapidly; these were the words of young Mehwish who has now high aspirations, to join the medical profession as a Peadiatrician. We at Shaukat Khanum  Hospital hope to see her as a successful doctor, an inspiration for all cancer patients and wish her a healthy and fulfilling life ahead.
